NACATHS WEEK 2025/2026: ST. ALBERT THE GREAT MAJOR SEMINARY COMES ALIVE WITH “ROOTED IN CHRIST, SENT TO THE WORLD”

The National Association of Catholic Theology Students (NACATHS), St. Albert the Great Major Seminary, Idowu-Offonran Chapter, has successfully wrapped up its much-anticipated annual NACATHS Week for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Held from Monday, 9th March to Sunday, 15th March 2026, the week-long celebration revolved around the inspiring theme: “Rooted in Christ, Sent to the World” (cf. Jn 15:5, 16). The programme challenged seminarians to remain deeply anchored in Christ while actively preparing to serve the Church in today’s fast-changing society.
The week opened on Monday with the official declaration by NACATHS Moderator, Rev. Fr. Enoch Usifo. This was immediately followed by a powerful and thought-provoking symposium titled “Intergenerational Church: Bridging Digital Natives and Established Members,” delivered by Rev. Fr. Gregory Fadele. The session set a high intellectual and pastoral tone, calling for genuine dialogue and unity between the Church’s younger and older generations. The day ended with choir practice as NACATHS members readied themselves to serve as liturgical functionaries throughout the week.
Tuesday was all about fraternity and friendly rivalry. The Philosophy and Theology Departments faced off in an exciting football match, after which the evening came alive with a colourful “Old School” Social Night that provided relaxation, bonding, and rich cultural expression among the seminarians. This was followed by a well-deserved break on Wednesday with an outing that promoted recreation and community spirit outside the seminary walls, even as the choir continued its tireless preparations.
Thursday combined brains and brawn: more sporting competitions kept the competitive fire burning, while Theology I and II students locked horns in a high-octane debate on the burning question: “Digital Evangelization or Traditional Pastoral Methods: Which is More Effective?” The debate captured the Church’s current struggle to proclaim the Gospel effectively in a digital age. The week climaxed on Sunday, 15th March, with a beautiful Thanksgiving Mass where participants poured out gratitude to God for the success of the programme. Prizes were awarded for the sporting events, with the Theology Department emerging as overall champions. In the debate category, Theology II students were crowned winners, receiving loud applause for their excellence.
The NACATHS Week was formally closed by the Moderator, Rev. Fr. Enoch Usifo on Sunday, 15th March 2026 after thanksgiving by the NACATHS body of the Seminary.
