The Seminary community came alive last session from the 11th to 18th of May 2025 with vibrant colours, resounding drums, and rich cultural expressions of Yoruba heritage during the much-anticipated Yoruba Week Celebration. The event, organized by the Yoruba Liturgico-cultural Group, was a joyful celebration with the theme; Inculturation: A bridge between faith and culture in the light of the Yoruba heritage.
The week featured Polongo (drumming), Ale Erebe (storytelling), Yoruba debates, and Rosary recitations, all celebrating the richness of Yoruba culture. Similarly, a symposium was held in their honour presented by Very Rev. Fr. Evaristus Mary Oduntan, who reflected on faith and culture as partners through inculturation.
The grand finale began with Holy Mass, commissioning of patrons and matrons, and an Eyo parade. It ended with a feast of Yoruba dishes—ofada rice, àmàlà, iyan, ẹ̀fọ́ rírò, gbègìrì, and more accompanied by bàtá dancers and the SAGS Band.
The Rector Very Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Adebayo Lewis praised the organizers and encouraged seminarians to cherish their roots and unity. YOLIG Week reminded all that faith and culture can truly “dance” together.
